How to record screen share in Google Meet

For users experiencing issues recording Google Meet screen shares with Bluedot

If your Google Meet screen share is not appearing in your Bluedot recording, Google Meet may have switched the meeting to Picture-in-Picture during the screen share.

Picture-in-Picture is controlled by Google Meet and Chrome, not by Bluedot. Bluedot records what is visible in the main Google Meet tab. If the meeting moves to a floating Picture-in-Picture window while you are sharing your screen, the shared content may not be recorded correctly.

As a result, the screen share may be missing from the final recording.

How to fix it

Before starting your screen share, disable automatic picture-in-picture in Google Meet.

• Option 1: Disable it inside Google Meet

  1. Open your Google Meet meeting in Chrome.

  2. At the bottom of the Meet screen, click the three dots menu.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. Go to General.

  5. Find Automatic picture-in-picture.

  6. Select Never automatically show.

After this, start your screen share again.

• Option 2: If picture-in-picture is already open

If you already see the small floating Google Meet window:

  1. Click Back to tab in the small picture-in-picture window.

  2. Return to the main Google Meet tab.

  3. Disable automatic picture-in-picture following the previous steps.

  4. Start or restart your screen share.

• Option 3: Alternative Chrome Global setting

If Picture-in-Picture keeps opening on other tabs or websites, you can disable it globally in Chrome.

  1. Open Google Chrome.

  2. Click the Menu icon (three dots) in the top-right corner and select Settings.

  3. On the left panel, select Privacy and security, then click Site settings on the right side.

  4. Scroll down, click Additional permissions, and select Automatic picture-in-picture.

  5. Select Don't allow sites to enter picture-in-picture automatically.
